"The music of Fern Knight is a soundtrack for some Gothic fairy tale unfolding under the light of the full moon, with harmonic twists and turns droning in the long shadows."

Sometimes Eyesore, sometimes Esper Margie Wienk, with Jesse Sparhawk (Timesbold) and Jim Ayre (Rake), phones it in from the Evangeline clothing store (the only place they could find a land line!) in South Philadelphia, PA.

Margie's graceful cello and Jesse's gentle harp sound like they're simply lifted off the ground by Jim's sweeping E-bowed Flying V guitar, a perfect combo of acoustic and electric that sounds like few of Fern Knight's contemporaries. They've each, after all, been playing their unique brands of baroque folk music and improv before there was a 'neo-folk' movement to speak of, recalling the best from the dark underground UK folk of the late '60s and early '70s.

FK's second-to-last album was rightly titled 'Music for Witches and Alchemists', because magic and alchemy is just what it contained. Here are four songs from their latest, self-titled LP.
